Hey! My name is Katie Nelson and I currently use she/her pronouns. I’m so excited you’re here and interested in our project! No Margins Agency was born out of a deep frustration with the publishing industry, both traditional and self-publishing. We can’t do a damn thing about traditional publishing, but self-publishing is a different story. For many authors, finding photos of their main characters is a breeze. For everyone else, they are confronted with a myriad of bad and sometimes harmful images of people who look like them. The path to publication is rough for people with more barriers than most along with a lack of resources and as many people know, a good cover sells a book. No Margins is for people who’ve run into these barriers. We want to see every kind of person on the cover of a book.

I’m obviously passionate about this subject, but right now I want to let you know what you can expect to see in my monthly posts. I love reading science fiction and fantasy, no doubt I’ll spill my thoughts on my recent reads. My favorites include She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan, A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark, and anything by Ursula K. Le Guin. I also enjoy non-fiction as books and through other media like podcasts and social media posts, mostly centered around social justice issues.

As a queer person who attracts other queer people into my orbit, I consume a lot of content around this subject and discuss it ad nauseum, the same way some people talk about the sports.

Now to combine the two! I also write science fiction with queer characters, and I’m sure you’ll get the dubious honor of hearing about my current WIP (work in progress). Outside of these main topics, I’m likely to share new music I’ve found, artists I like, random shiny things that catch my attention, and whatever new craft I’ve taken up.
